Monika Chiang had a jet-setter childhood: The daughter of a well-traveled artist, the emerging designer lived in the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Taiwan and Hong Kong (just to name a few locales).

It’s no surprise that her new namesake line is a United Nations of Balinese faux-crocodile-skin cuffsembossed leather clutches($335) with Indian accents, and Eton-inspired velvet slippers($325).

Besides her striking accessories medley, Chiang is redefining power dressing with fitted leather motorcycle jackets ($845),oversized cashmere sweaters ($545) and coquettish bustiers($395).

But her gravity-defying shoes are really in charge. The sky-highplum suede stiletto ($445) is more than six inches tall, and the heels on the thigh-grazing studded leather boots ($1,095) are five inches of tough-girl chic. Even Chiang’s ballet flats ($255) have a hidden wedge heel for extra lift.

Following the opening of boyfriend Chris Burch’s C. Wonder, Chiang is going bicoastal with a West Hollywood boutique and imminent Manhattan brick-and-mortar.

Bearing in mind her renegade aesthetic, we can’t wait to see her forthcoming lingerie line.
